 K-9: P.I. (2002)
IMDB rating: 5.20
Plot: San Diego police detective Mike Dooley has retired from the force, but on the way home from his retirement party, he and his police dog, Jerry Lee, come across a robbery at an electronics lab, in which four valuable prototype computer chips are stolen. When Dooley and Jerry Lee try to stop the robbery, they are slowed down by the FBI, who draw their guns on Dooley. In chasing the thieves, Jerry Lee has swallowed one of the chips, and the other three won’t work without it. In the eyes of the FBI, Dooley becomes a suspect just because he was on the scene at the time of the heist, and his pension is frozen until the case is solved. Since Dooley’s pension is frozen, he decides to breed Jerry Lee for some quick cash to start a private investigation business. Unfortunately, Jerry Lee’s a big slob who farts a lot, and so he has trouble with the higher-brow dog fanciers. But after a successful night of breeding, Dooley gets paid, and winds up with a crush on Catherine Coleman, the female dog’s owner. Jerry Lee gets “morning after” regrets. After a trip to the vet, Jerry Lee passes the computer chip. Dooley cleans the chip and stuffs the chip into the locket on Jerry Lee’s dog collar. Dooley gets his P.I. license and advertises his services in the paper. The first person to call him is Laura Fields, who wants Dooley to help her find her lost fiance. Little do Dooley and Jerry Lee know that all roads in this investigation will lead back to the heist. Dooley has to deal with the FBI, which is tailing him to see how he was involved with the theft in the first place. He also has to deal with his ex-captain and his former colleagues, who all seem to think he’s crazy. As it turns out, Laura is the mastermind behind the theft, and she hired Dooley so she can get her hands on the chip that Jerry Lee has. Can Dooley and Jerry Lee stop Laura before she can get her hands on the chip?

I don’t think I left out any info, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to come up with an answer. Consider the needs of both teams, and let me know who you think is getting the upper hand. Also keep in mind this is a keeper league, so age matters. Best answer will be chosen by tomorrow afternoon. Thanks in advance for those of you that take the time to reply.
This is more of a deal to be made for the future… It’s not exactly a "help me now" deal. This deal was made in hopes of trading away Howard to someone in desperate need of a new 1B, to get two 20-40 ranked players in return. I look at it as more of a short-term deal. I don’t intend to keep Howard unless he completely dominates. If I do keep him, he’ll be a solid utility guy in place of Fukudome. If not, he’s got a great trade value. And he’s young. This is a keeper league. Lee and Valverde are both in their thirties. The loss of Valverde shouldn’t be difficult to make up for, as Hoffman is coming off the DL soon, and there’s always a new closer popping up in FA throughout the season. And taking into account the fact that closers aren’t often over-valued like a player like Howard is, I could likely just as easily trade away Howard to get another solid, younger 20ish outfielder and a younger, higher ranked closer than Valverde. Lot of different ways to look at it, & now I’ve seen more.
Team 1 will be trading down trading OF (Carlos for Dye) but getting a top tier 1B, which his team doesn’t need at all with Albert Pujols and Garret Atkins.
Team 2 loses their 1B and Util/OF for a better OF, but will be stuck with Blalock as their 1B. And will get a good RP and SP, but will be trading away Howard.
I don’t think the trade is worth it to team 1, because he already has Pujols and Atkins, and I don’t think the trade is good for team 2 because he is trading away his 1B and weakens his infields tremendously.
That’s my take on the matter.
Good luck with your team!

I look at the deal and I look at Team 1’s roster and I wonder why he is even looking at this deal. He has better that what he would be trading for. He can’t afford to let a good closer go and he isn’t getting any bang for his buck. Ryan Howard is a monster with a bat but not as good as Albert. So Ryan would never get any AB’s anyway. Team 1 doesn’t really even need Dye.
Then I look at Team 2. He has a weak 2B and a SS who isn’t what he used to be. And Team 2 is out there trying to make deals for pitchers and OF’s. Team 2 does need a good closer. And Meche is a better SP than several of his pitchers. But when is all said and done, he weakest positions are still his weakest positions.
If this deal gets accepted, Team 2 wins big time. I just don’t understand it getting accepted.
I almost forgot, who is going to play 1B for Team 2 if the deal gets made? One of the bench jockeys? This whole deal smells.
